Our Project

In may 2004 we'll leave Belgium and we'll cycle for about 2 years. We hope we'll reach Japan in June 2006. However depending on our economy and envies, everything can happen. This Internet page will describe our travel, stage by stage.

We would also like to initiate a reflection on our norms and needs. Hoping to become on a very small scale a eyewitness of other norms and "needs", and maybe making some of ours conscious of the responsibility we bear as citizen and consumer and thus capable of acting towards a change.

Why by Bicycle

When we started to consider a way of transportation that we'd like to use for a long travel, the bicycle quickly imposed itself.

Travelling at one own rhythm.
We have been dreaming of travelling without deadlines for years. Wandering the world peacefully, taking our time to stop because we like a place or meet someone.

Travelling freely, from town to town
We have travelled in public transport before and we quickly realised of the limitation of such transport: Dependant of existing journey's, travelling becomes faster, linking on city to the next, without in betweens. And if you suddenly decide to leave the bus and stop in that town, your presence somehow makes no sense.
Often we hired bicycles for a few days, and it directly felt as the best way of travelling for us. Allowing all the freedom we wished. The travel process is constant, and your presence is not questioned.

Travel ecologically.
Convinced city cyclists, we want to prove that this mode of transportation clean, silent, for all occasions, economical, can lead us far.
